How To Create, Find and Use A Lesson Folder

The 'HoustonGuitar.Com' folder is designed to make it easier to find and use the lessons you download.

As you add new lessons, they are automatically added to this folder. Be sure to save and unzip in the same folder each time, preferably 'My Documents.

The lesson downloads from this site function like small websites. Each website has a specific entry point within a folder containing web pages, graphics, videos and sound files.

The 'HoustonGuitar.Com' folder can be backed up like any Windows folder.

From your desktop:
[1] Click on My Documents
[2] Click on HoustonGuitar.Com
[3] Click on desired lesson title (This is a Windows folder)
[4] Click on the file called 'Click Here To Enter.html'

The '---' folder contains all of the web pages, graphics, video and sound files needed for the lesson to work properly. This way, you don't have to find the entry page from among the dozens of files which make up one lesson.
Executable Zip Files   The lesson downloads from HoustonGuitar.Com are packaged as Zip files with the extension '.exe'. Unzipping your first downloaded file creates a Windows folder called 'HoustonGuitar.Com'.

Save To and UnZip From 'My Documents'   You can put this folder anywhere you want. We recommend that you place it inside your 'My Documents' folder. If you save your downloads to 'My Documents,' and then unzip them from that folder, then the folder path will look like this:

    C:/My Documents/HoustonGuitar.Com

Inside this folder, you will see other folders with the lesson title(s) you have downloaded, and unzipped.

Unzipping Files   When you unzip the downloaded files, they automatically arrange themselves in a Windows folder called 'HoustonGuitar.Com'. As long as you unzip the downloads in the same folder every time, the lessons will work correctly.

Easy To Find   The HoustonGuitar.Com folder is designed to make it easy for you to find your lesson once you have unzipped it. All lessons that you download and unzip will automatically set themselves up in the HoustonGuitar.Com folder. New lesson downloads will appear as new folders within the HoustonGuitar.Com folder.

Lesson Folder   When you click on the desired lesson title, and you will see two items.

   --- (Windows Folder)

'Click Here' Opens Your Web Browser   The 'Click Here To Enter.html' file should have an Internet Explorer icon, or the icon of your default web browser. Your web browser should open automatically when you click on the file.

Delete The '.Exe' Files   The .exe files take up as much space as the unzipped, working lesson in your HoustonGuitar.Com folder. Once you have successfully unzipped the .exe files, you can erase them from the My Documents folder . Highlight the file, press delete. Windows will warn you that you are deleting a program, it's OK. Erasing these .exe's frees up wasted disk space.

Adding New Lessons   As you download and unzip new lessons, they add themselves to the same HoustonGuitar.Com folder.

Downloads Don't Effect Your Computer The lessons use only a few different file types, which are common in web pages. The lesson downloads will not effect your settings, desktop, Start menu, dll's, registry or anything else outside of the HoustonGuitar.Com folder. They will not create conflicts with any of your computer's programs. (You might be prompted to update your RealPlayer or Windows Media Player if yours is very old.)

File Types Used:
